I’ve been thinking a lot about color lately, and how much of it I don’t have in my wardrobe. This has also happened to me before and I went through a whole “experimentation with color” phase, only to declutter the majority of the items that I bought.

But because of that past phase, I now know what colors I really like to wear - namely, blue, green, purple and red. So, for my low buy purchases this year, I’m going to try to not buy any (or much) black and focus on these colors instead.

I’d love to have a balanced wardrobe with half of my clothes being dark colors such as black, charcoal and navy and the other half being more vibrant.

Sunday

It was absolutely freezing this day. My main goal was to wear as many layers as possible. What you can’t see is my tank top and leggings underneath this all. I wore my long puffer coat over this and my only regret was wearing shoes that exposed my ankles because even with thick socks, I could feel the cold!

I did think about wearing my vintage silk blouse under this more casual shirt because I liked the juxtaposition of the items, but something felt off so I went for the “safer” choice of a white t-shirt. Looking back at the photos, I think I liked the blouse more, and how the tones complemented the colors in the shoes. It’s funny how something can seem off in the moment but then you end up preferring it!

We actually went to look for a new sofa this day. We’ve been wanting to change the configuration of our living room for a while and have been looking for a new sofa for a long time but local searches haven’t been panning out. While we’ve found some online that we like the look of, I have a hard time buying something that I can’t sit on first. Luckily, we found something that we all liked that we could get delivered on Saturday! We brought one of the sofas we had to an antique consignment shop and we sent the other one that we had back downstairs to our family room to join the other 2 items in the sectional that it belongs to.

Outfit Rating System:

Comfort - Was I too hot or cold? Did it fit me properly? Did I have to adjust any of the items constantly?
Style - Did I feel stylish in the outfit? Did it feel like a “me” outfit, or was there something about it that was off?
Fun - Did I try something new? Was I really excited about the outfit, or was I bored by the outfit?

Monday

I loved this outfit! I think that this long black slip dress is a real workhorse in my wardrobe. It looks good on it’s own, but it layers so well with so many items! It’s an item that I wear all year round

This day, I layered it over a charcoal grey merino wool mockneck (it was a turtleneck that I cut the neck off of - best decision ever!) and leggings. Then I layered my grey wool vest over the dress and added a long necklace.

Fun fact about me is that I had a jewelry shop on Etsy in 2012-13 and this necklace was the first that I made in a series that I kept for myself because I loved the color scheme so much! It’s one of my favorite things that I’ve ever made.

I went for moto boots and a long coat and I felt really chic in this outfit. It just feels like everything “works” - I love when an outfit comes together and you feel like you wouldn’t have changed anything!

Comfort - 10/10; Style - 10/10; Fun - 8/10.

Tuesday

I was feeling adventurous on Tuesday so I paired this cropped shirt with my memade Peony dress. I added a bandana that I twisted and tied together with a hair tie.

I really like how that turned out - it reminded me of when I used to be in Girl Guides (the Canadian equivalent of Girl Scouts) and I had a little orange and white scarf that I used to tie like this. It went with my Brownie uniform, which I actually still have - my daughter used to play dressup with it when she was younger.

I wore my dress over a tank top and leggings and paired it with my new brown boots. I added my long tan coat but forgot to get the evidence ;).

Looking back at the photos, I don’t love it as much as I thought I did in the moment. Something feels off with the footwear choice but I don’t know what other boots I would have worn with it.

I think some outfits translate better in real life than in a mirror selfie and I think that was the case for this one but I’m glad that I tried it!

Comfort - 10/10; Style - 7/10; Fun - 9/10.
