The outfit diary series is a weekly series where I share every outfit that I’ve worn that week, as a way for me to document my wardrobe, but also to provide you with styling ideas for your own wardrobe so that you can find wardrobe contentment without shopping. The first 3 outfits are available to all. To gain access to all of the outfits, plus quarterly analysis posts, please consider supporting my newsletter ($5/month or an annual membership of $50 gets you 2 months free). Thank you!

Sunday

Nike rain coat, Levi’s 501 jeans, Schutz shoes*

Sunday’s outfit was all about function over fashion! It was rainy and cold, so I built my outfit around my rain coat and a pair of waterproof shoes.

I’ve had this rain coat for years! It was the only jacket that I took with me when we visited Scotland in 2018 so I’ve had it for at least 7 years. It has another pocket that’s detachable that you can store the rest of the jacket in, which makes it really good for traveling as it packs down really small. I don’t usually put the extra pocket on as it is just secured at the top by a zipper and something always feels off about it.

I had a hard time deciding what sweater to wear with these jeans, which are new to my wardrobe. This is the third time that I’ve worn them in the last week, so they’ve been a good addition. I admit that I struggle to style them sometimes but I’m not used to having lighter denim so maybe that’s why.

I started off with my chunkier wool sweater and I really liked this but it felt bulky under the rain coat and I was worried that I’d feel too warm, even though the temperature was only in the 40s. Then I tried my grey cashmere sweater over a white tee with the hem left out. I wanted to like this but something isn’t working with the proportions, so I removed the tee and I think this is much better! The cashmere sweater was the perfect thickness under the rain coat and I felt really cozy.

It’s a pretty boring outfit, which is why I’m so glad to have fun shoes!

Comfort - 10/10; Style - 10/10; Fun - 7/10.

Outfit Rating System:

Comfort - Was I too hot or cold? Did it fit me properly? Did I have to adjust any of the items constantly?
Style - Did I feel stylish in the outfit? Did it feel like a “me” outfit, or was there something about it that was off?
Fun - Did I try something new? Was I really excited about the outfit, or was I bored by the outfit?

Monday

La Ligne Sweater*, Land’s End jeans*, Adidas sneakers

Monday’s outfit features a sweater that I had planned to declutter last fall, but then noticed that it had a hook that I had to fix first. Luckily, my tendency to procrastinate came in handy as I put this off until a few days ago.

Why was this lucky? Well, I realized that this is the perfect sweater for spring/summer, not fall/winter, which was when I’d originally been trying to wear it and felt frustrated by the collar! It has a half zip and a high collar but I don’t like how it looks zipped up. However, I really like it let open with the neck resting on my shoulders.

I paired the sweater with my new-to-me jeans, which I’m so happy with - they’re so comfortable and I like the color and detailing! I knew that I’d be spending part of the day doing my spring wardrobe switchover so I wanted an outfit that would be comfortable and not too hot that wasn’t leggings and a hoodie, since I was going to be filming it.

When it was time to go and get my daughter from school, followed by a grocery store run, I added my light suede sneakers. I’m so happy that I decided to add a couple of pairs of sneakers to my shoe collection following the no buy year - I was definitely missing lighter colored comfy footwear. I also took my cream colored bucket bag and I like how it matches the sneakers almost perfectly.

This plate of cucumber slices also matched my outfit 😆 This has been my favorite snack lately (or side to a meal) - sliced cucumbers with salt and pepper. So refreshing and delicious!

Tuesday

Rochas jacker*, Time and Tru tee*, Citizens of Humanity jeans*, Adidas sneakers

I’ve worn jeans 3 days in a row! Am I a jeans person now?? 😅

When I was working on my spring wardrobe switchover, I decided to keep this khaki wool jacket out specifically to recreate this outfit that I wore earlier this year during my 10x10 capsule wardrobe challenge (well, almost - the shoes are different and I didn’t wear a belt) because I liked it so much when I wore it the first time around.

Also, these sneakers - again! A small part of me was going to apologize for wearing these again but since I’m a big fan of rewearing, I won’t. Instead, I’ll just warn you that you’re probably going to see them a lot this spring!

I added a pair of dangly earrings and an extra ring to go along with my everyday watch, wedding ring and school ring.

It’s a super simple outfit that I feel really good in!
