Love this creative practice!! I’ve dabbled in floral arrangements as gifts, but I’ll cop to being too cheap to make them for my own home (plus I kinda hate picking up after them??).
Right now my non-style, creative practice is collage. I read a Stack about doing a bullet journal spread for books they read, and I’m going to try to start logging my finished books with collage—one down so far!
Thank you!! I appreciate that - it’s giving me the confidence to be a little more adventurous! What has been your approach so far? Are you mixing and matching your own bouquets?
My husband (sometimes with one of my daughters) is the TJ’s shopper, so I skip the hard part. My daughter is also the arranger, and I’ll give my thoughts (which are not appreciated). Today I noticed that the flowers were all very upright, leaving a lot of stem to look at from the side. I saw an image of similarly upright flowers, but the ones around the perimeter were cut shorter, so I followed that example to some success. The size of the base opening seems to make a big difference. It can’t be too narrow or they look very stiff.
Sounds like we have a similar arrangement that means we get to avoid the dreaded grocery store, although TJs is more enjoyable than most! And I love that it's a "collaborative" effort between you and your daughter 😅 I've also noticed that and prefer a wider opening - I'll be picking up a little greenery to add to the open spots to give it a little structure.
My cat used to chew on flowers and plants, so I couldn’t have them around. You’ve inspired me to buy myself some flowers, thank you! I love the arrangement with the white flowers and yellow balls.💕🌸
Yes, get yourself some flowers to enjoy, Sheila - they’re such a mood booster! I have one cat that will do this with leaves and grasses so I try to put cat friendly arrangements (usually the roses) on the table which is the only place that she bothers them. And thank you - that makes me so happy to hear that you love that arrangement as I did tat one entirely from scratch!
Some years ago, my husband bought me a beautiful bouquet of lilies. Knowing that they were toxic to cats (we had 5 at the time), I shut them in the bathroom. Unfortunately, my husband left the door open and our most plant-chewing-inclined cat got in and chewed a leaf. Off he went to the vet, for a 24-hour IV drip against potential dire kidney and liver damage. On his return from dropping the cat at the vet, my husband left the bathroom door open a second time; another cat got in and chewed a leaf; and he also had to go for an infusion. That has to have been the most expensive and stress-inducing bouquet of flowers ever! PLEASE don't have lilies of any sort - including alstroemerias, AKA Peruvian lilies - anywhere in your home if you have cats: there's no guarantee that they won't chew on them, and even a speck of pollen can literally be fatal if ingested by a cat. It's not worth the risk.
Love it! Be carefull with the lilies, they are very toxis for cats. Maybe you already know. I always cut out the stamps. ❤️

We’ve been trying our hand at flower arrangements via TJ’s as well. So affordable and easy. Your last arrangement is stunning!

I looove avoiding the grocery store. I think my husband enjoys it, so it works for everyone.

I would love to try this new hobby! Your arrangements are lovely :)
Thank you! If you have a Trader Joe’s nearby, their flowers are pretty inexpensive.
