Keep the ceiling white, they are a pain in the ass to paint. I love the floral with the critters! And all the hearts for the wee cat bed area!💕 Our home has always been rather a hodgepodge of styles, kind of like my wardrobe, ha!
Such a fun post! My husband is a big music guy too…and I also took over our den as my closet!
So exciting! For me it was the other way around. I started to want to experiment with fashion after a remodeled the whole downstairs. I had to learn a lot about interior design and I love how it ended up and that’s what made me want to be more adventurous with colours, proportions and textures in clothes. Crazy how they can relate!
If the house is older (70s), I wonder if it had one of those hanging glass lights on a drapey chain. They were usually positioned so the electric connection was in a corner.
Thanks for sharing that info - it was actually built in the 2000s and everything else seems to be well positioned. Maybe they were running out of wire by the time they got to this room 😆
I looooved this. Being a multi year many house renter this kind of dreaming is so lovely and fun. I would consider painting the ceiling a half or quarter shade of your wall colour, so it's in tone but lighter, rather than having a single colour box. Can I also suggest looking for a more densely woven cushion fabric? We got a very tough couch fabric a few years ago; our 2 cats haven't put any claw marks in it and the hair just brushes off, the weave is so tight they can't penetrate it. Loosely woven fabrics pull so easily and fine cat hair somehow weaves itself in, of course.
I’m so happy that you enjoyed it, Ellen! I feel like I did the easy part with the daydreaming but now I have to do the work (we’ll probably work it into next month’s budget or at least some if it)! Thanks for your suggestions on the ceiling color and seat material - hadn’t even thought of a more densely woven fabric - I will have to do some research!
We have two of the similar greens in our kitchen and separate dining room (used as a room to house books, a buffet/hutch, and a dining table with 2 gaming PCs for teenagers!). The kitchen is newer (was brick red before, and came with beige at first) but we’ve had the darker dining room color since 2004 and I’m still so happy with it!
I love this kind of post, especially as I’m currently looking at a million swatches of things too!
My whole apartment is dark, and after fighting it for years I know have a lot of dark paint, and will never change it back. I love that Inverness colour, and think it will make the room so welcoming. Also, dark paint is cosy in winter and cool in summer.
I chose your lighter flooring option just because I thought that might be similar to the rest of your house and provide coherence.
I went for the more orangey rug, too, so you weren’t tied too much into greens.
Colour drenching might work well in here. I’m coloured-ceiling curious but not sure I’m brave enough to do it myself so I’ll look forward to reading other people’s advice.
I can’t wait to see how this turns out Gillian, and you definitely have the skills to make it beautiful 😍
Thanks for your feedback, Louise! I really appreciate it 🫶🏻 I feel like I could have been clearer about the dark and light wood colors - we already have light wood flooring in this room which matches the other flooring in the house. The samples were for the window seat surround - we have other darker wood elements in this room such as a shelf and chairs and we just love walnut wood in general which is one of the reasons that I included it as an option. I will make a note to add more details about what is existing about a space in any future posts so thanks for making me think of that! I am leaning heavily into the idea of painting the ceiling too, although I hate painting ceilings! And thank you so much for the vote of confidence, Louise 💕
I think I would paint the ceiling another shade of green. A lighter tone, maybe even clary sage ;)
Thanks for this suggestion, Aubrey!

I feel you on the ceilings - I avoid them as much as possible, even if there's water stains 😬 And it sounds like we all have a lot in common!

Watch this video! I successfully made seat covers. I had to watch video very very closely over and over again - but I did it!
Thanks for sharing, Lynne! And congrats on making the covers - that’s a huge accomplishment 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This is so interesting, Melissa! I never really thought about how closely they were tied until I started this project but you're so right!

Thanks for sharing, Hollyce! It's great to know that you are still loving the dark green after all these years.

It will be fab! And agreed, walnut wood is beautiful!
Thanks Louise! I hope you're enjoying Carnival!
