I wrote in last week’s outfit diary that I feared I might be going off capsule wardrobes, but I might have spoken too soon. I hadn’t yet gotten to the part of the challenge that actually felt like a challenge - I was basically just wearing the obvious outfits and hadn’t been pushed out of my styling comfort zone.
But that’s always what the last few days of a 10x10 style challenge does, and this one did not disappoint! I tried styling things in ways I never would have without the challenge and while some were definite hits, there were a few almost misses as well!
I’ll definitely be doing more wardrobe challenges throughout the year when I feel like I need one!
Outfit Rating System:
Comfort - Was I too hot or cold? Did it fit me properly? Did I have to adjust any of the items constantly?
Style - Did I feel stylish in the outfit? Did it feel like a “me” outfit, or was there something about it that was off?
Fun - Did I try something new? Was I really excited about the outfit, or was I bored by the outfit?
Sunday
I started off the day in an outfit that I had styled for a video, and while I liked it, I didn’t feel 100% confident in it. I really liked that I used earrings to close the cardigan, and after trying quite a few pairs, I came to the realization that these are the only ones with posts strong enough to keep it closed.
I am on the lookout for a brooch or 2 (or 4 if they’re smaller) to close my cardigans that don’t have buttons, but I imagine it’ll be a slow process to find the perfect ones!
Before we left the house, I actually tried something a little different…
I added in my grey wool vest and played around with the side ties, which was something that I had done last Thursday, and now I have 3 more ways to wear this vest. I really don’t think I would’ve tried anything extra with the ties without the challenge!
I really loved how both looked but preferred them fully tucked in just a little more. It was really warm out on this day and I didn’t need a jacket, which was a treat.
I really loved this outfit and I felt so confident!

Monday
Another day, another chance to wear the blue cardigan! I think I’ve worn this cardigan more over the course of this challenge than I have in all the years that I’ve owned it. But it has made me realize how much I love it 💙
I started off with the cardigan open over the white tee. With the black boots, it felt unbalanced so I decided to add my black western belt, which I think is a great compliment to the boots. I’m not usually one to belt cardigans or blazers but I think that it definitely adds more visual detail.
I also liked how the length of the wool coat worked with the length of the cardigan and I think the colors of all the items work really well together.
This cardigan doesn’t overlap much and it kept coming slightly apart under the belt which I knew would bother me all day, so I used a safety pin to close it just under the belt loop.
I didn’t love this t-shirt under the cardigan - I found that it bunched up around the chest. I think that it would be nice to have a tighter fitting white t-shirt to wear under sweaters. One thing that I’ve been noticing is that I lack good basic tees and tank tops, which is something that I’ll be looking into adding.
I liked this outfit good enough but I’m not sure that it’s one that I’ll repeat, but maybe I’ll repeat the formula with different items!

Tuesday
In any 10x10 challenge, it’s inevitable that I’ll try a combination that’s very outside the box, and I feel like Tuesday was that day! I knew that I wanted to try wearing this skirt as a dress, even though it just looks like a shorter skirt with a sweater over top!
I went with the dress pants underneath as opposed to the jeans because I had already worn the jeans a lot and I knew that I wanted to wear them on the last day of the challenge.
After adding my green sweater I knew that I’d need something to keep the shirt in place so I used my vintage western belt and it worked perfectly. A bolo tie felt like the perfect finisher to the outfit!
I tried my khaki jacket but I wasn’t loving it, so I went with my charcoal coat, which wasn’t in my capsule, but c’est la vie.
I also think I used the longer coat as a security blanket in a way - the outfit was a bit outside my comfort zone and since I wore my jacket most of the time that I was out, I felt like there was less of a chance for judgement. But looking back at these photos as I write this, I actually like the khaki jacket more!
