I’ve spent a lot of time standing in front of my closet, staring at my clothes, trying to figure out what to wear this week. Everything just felt bland and boring, but how could I go from loving my outfits last week to having such apathy for it all this week?
I found myself looking at clothing online more than I usually would but I knew that was happening because I was feeling emotionally drained and not because I actually needed to buy anything.
So I found a journal on Thursday morning and have been writing in it everyday since. I journaled a lot at the beginning of my no buy year but gave up around the 6-month mark. And after picking it back up again, I’ve noticed a big difference! I think it helped me to release a lot of the stress and negative self-talk that was going on.
I think you’ll be able to see a progression of my outfit effort as the week goes on 😂 and I’ve also included some things that I’ve been reading, watching, listening to and making. I hope you enjoy!
Sunday

Sunday is “family day” in our house. We usually go downtown and hit up the local bookshop and cafes. We have a look around our favorite antique shop and pop into any other shop that interests us, usually just to browse. Sometimes the kids decide to join, or not, but we usually have one of them that’ll come along.
It was chilly this day and I was also feeling like I needed a pop of color. I layered a blue alpaca sweater over a tank top and paired it with a pair pf black jeans that I haven’t been wearing as much lately. And I’m sure you’re sick of seeing these but I wore my moto boots and vintage western belt.
I topped it off with my new vintage coat and a lightweight wool scarf for another pop of color against the jacket. Honestly, when you have a great coat, that’s the whole outfit, right?
I saw something on Instagram a while back saying that the french tuck is over - why would you choose to not do something that makes an outfit so much better? It’s like “cutting off your nose to spite your face” energy 😆

Outfit Rating System:
Comfort - Was I too hot or cold? Did it fit me properly? Did I have to adjust any of the items constantly?
Style - Did I feel stylish in the outfit? Did it feel like a “me” outfit, or was there something about it that was off?
Fun - Did I try something new? Was I really excited about the outfit, or was I bored by the outfit?
Monday
I basically duplicated the outfit that I wore a few ago on Saturday but I switched out my Kaya sweater for my new grey wool roll neck. This is a winter outfit combination that I’ve been relying on - oversized sweater + black utility pants + chunky rain boots.
I folded up a silk hankie and tied it around my neck for turtleneck vibes and added a statement earring and because it was frigid outside, it was a long puffer coat and beanie kinda day. Well, everyday is a beanie kinda day - does anyone else feel naked during the winter without a hat on?

Tuesday
My kids didn’t have school this day because of extreme cold so we just stayed home all day. I thought this would be a good day to wear this fleece sweater that I’m unsure about. I paired it with some old track pants and my Birkenstock clogs that have yet to be worn outside - soon, hopefully🤞🏻
I bought this sweater during my no buy year rebound and I don’t know why. I found it at a consignment shop and I paid $50 dollars for it (it’s Patagonia but I honestly don’t think that justifies the price and I don’t know why I bought it). I’d prefer to wear a wool sweater over this any day.
There are two things that bother me about it:
The collar looks good when it’s straight up but I find it a little too high and it touches my face when I turn my head. I usually just fold it in when I’m wearing it around the house.
The length is a little too long and I’m also bothered by the division between the ivory and grey material.
I’m heavily considering turning this into a vest!
