The further into these outfit diaries that I get, the more content that I become with my wardrobe. Sometimes it feels like I wear the same thing that I’ve worn before, only to go back through previous diaries to see that the concept was similar (most of the time), but there have certainly been a couple of outfit repeats, as you’d probably expect!
This week, I revisited my old love of wearing a dress over jeans and I rediscovered the joy of sewing my own clothes, both of which I would highly recommend…
The dress over jeans option might be the quicker of the two 😆
Sunday
It’s hard to believe that my kids had school off last week for extreme cold and then it was warm enough for bare legs and just a sweater this day!
I tried on quite a few outfits before settling on this tried and true outfit combination - oversized sweater + slip dress + moto boots. I actually think I might have worn this exact outfit before but with leggings and a coat!
Actually, a quick check back through the past 13 weeks reveals that I haven’t, but I have done this similar combo:
A reddish lip, one extra ring and a pair of statement earrings were the only extras that I added.
I didn’t bother with a handbag because everything I tried messed with the shape of the sweater so I just carried my phone in my hand. I did see a black tote bag when I was out which would have worked with the sweater but I didn’t pick it up. Maybe if I continue to think about it and it’s still there next week, I might.
Comfort - 10/10; Style - 10/10; Fun - 8/10 - I didn’t really try anything that different with this outfit, instead choosing items and silhouettes that I have in the past.
Outfit Rating System:
Comfort - Was I too hot or cold? Did it fit me properly? Did I have to adjust any of the items constantly?
Style - Did I feel stylish in the outfit? Did it feel like a “me” outfit, or was there something about it that was off?
Fun - Did I try something new? Was I really excited about the outfit, or was I bored by the outfit?
Monday
For the past few days, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how great I felt on Saturday while I was wearing a dress that I made back in 2020, which prompted me to pull the very first item that I ever sewed for myself out of storage - a cream colored Wilder Gown that I made from raw silk.
I didn’t really think that I’d wear it again, at least not without dying it but after wearing my cream sheer dress on Saturday, with a layer over it close to my face, I was really in the mood to try something similar with this dress.
I decided to wear my two-tone memade jeans under the dress - they do not fit well in the waist/butt region but I love that they’re wide leg and two-toned so I like to wear something over them. I added my leopard print shoes to complement the warmer tone of the dress. Then I layered my grey wool vest over top and pulled the bow out over it, before adding a long necklace.
I did like this outfit but I didn’t feel 100% comfortable in it so I swapped out the sweater vest for my blue quilted one…
This felt so much more like “me”. I feel like my style has changed quite a bit since I sewed this dress and I actually decluttered quite a few items that I had sewn from that time period. This was my attempt to style it with the items that I love at this point in time.
As this was the first clothing item that I ever made, the seam finishes are really rough and I worry about the longevity of it. But maybe I’ll get a little more wear out of it.

Tuesday
I had my annual physical this day and I needed to dress strategically for it - a tank top layered under a wool sweater so that I could pull my arm out for bloodwork and a blood pressure reading and remove it completely to allow my doctor to listen to my heart and lungs.
I chose comfortable pants with some stretch because I’m always afraid of my blood pressure reading and I worry that tight jeans would make it worse 😂 - I had gestational hypertension with my last pregnancy and I always have to bring my own readings into the appointment because there’s no way they’ll be close to normal.
I think a grey sweater and black pants is pretty boring, so I added my green suede jacket, leopard shoes and a long necklace. I love that I’ve had all of these items for a really long time and I imagine I’ll have all of them for years, unless they wear out (basically, thinking about the pants).
Comfort - 10/10; Style - 10/10; Fun -8/10 - similarly to Monday, I didn’t try anything new with this outfit, instead relying on a combination that I’ve worn many times in the past.
