The outfit diary series is a weekly series where I share every outfit that I’ve worn that week, as a way for me to document my wardrobe, but also to provide you with styling ideas for your own wardrobe so that you can find wardrobe contentment without shopping. The first 3 outfits are available for everyone but to gain access to all of the outfits, plus quarterly analysis posts, please consider supporting my newsletter ($5/month or an annual membership of $50 gets you 2 months free). Thank you!

Sunday

Pendleton suede jacket*, Karen Millen top*, Nike nylon pants, Adidas Samba sneakers

As I stared at my clothes on this day trying to decide what to wear, I realized that it had been a while since I’ve worn these black nylon pants and since it was pretty warm outside and the roads/sidewalks were dry, I pulled out my silver sneakers to wear with them.

Then I tried so many different tops with these items and I almost went with an oversized sweater out of frustration, but since the pants are voluminous and tapered while the shoes are sleeker and have a lower profile than the shoes I would normally wear with these pants, the oversized sweater made the whole outfit feel “unbalanced”.

After about 20 minutes, I settled on this sheer-ish top with ties. This top fits more snugly, without being tight, and I think the proportions work really well with the pant/sneaker combo.

I only took my jacket off in the restaurant but this top felt a little “saucy” for daytime 😆

I added my green suede jacket and I really enjoyed the olive/black/silver combo. Not that you can tell, but I wore silver statement earrings too.

The weather was gorgeous and it was so nice to be outside in light layers!

I thought this flooring complimented my outfit nicely!

The kids didn’t want to go out with us so my husband and I enjoyed a little day date. We visited a wood shop first to look for supplies to build a cabinet for our records, then we visited one of our favorite local restaurants and split a crepe with coffee (me)/tea (him) followed by a look around an antique shop, and then a plant shop, but we didn’t end up buying anything!

Comfort - 10/10; Style - 10/10; Fun - 10/10.

Outfit Rating System:

Comfort - Was I too hot or cold? Did it fit me properly? Did I have to adjust any of the items constantly?
Style - Did I feel stylish in the outfit? Did it feel like a “me” outfit, or was there something about it that was off?
Fun - Did I try something new? Was I really excited about the outfit, or was I bored by the outfit?

Monday

What was I thinking when I almost decluttered this blazer (again!)?? Well, I’m really happy that I didn’t and like I said in last week’s outfit diary, I won’t ever try to declutter it again!

Confirming that I did indeed make the right choice to keep this, it looks like power shoulders are back…

via AP News “Fashion trends for fall: Big shoulders, even bigger coats and a color story to dye for”

For this outfit, I keep the base simple with a black semi-sheer wool mockneck sweater and a pair of black jeans. I added a vintage western style belt as a focal point to the monochrome outfit and my black moto boots that I often wear when I wear this belt.

I added the grey wool oversized blazer as all I needed was a light layer and I pushed the sleeves up and held them in place with hair elastics.

I kept the jewelry simple and the hair loose and big 😆

Pendleton vintage wool blazer*, Vince mockneck wool sweater*, vintage belt*, Citizens of Humanity jeans*, Frye boots

I really liked how I felt in this outfit and I like the silhouette of the closer fitting items underneath the oversized blazer.

Tuesday

L’Envers wool cardigan, A New Day tank top*, Citizens of Humanity jeans*

This is what I wore to get my hair trimmed ✂️

It always amazes me how low maintenance my hair is now that I have transitioned to silver. I used to dye my roots at least once a month and spend at least $100 anytime I went to the salon. Now I spend $55 every 3-4 months to get the ends cleaned up. Honestly, the best decision I ever made, and not just financially - there was quite a bit of growing out pain throughout the process but the end result is so worth it!

I embraced my grey hair decades before I was "supposed" to.

I had layers cut in around 6 months ago and I’m growing them out so that I only get a straight cut across the bottom and some face-framing pieces on the side. One of these days, I might try bangs!

Adidas Sambas sneakers, Marc by Marc Jacobs bucket bag*

I stuck with a similar base outfit as yesterday with a black tank top and the same black jeans. I swapped the blazer for a charcoal cardigan and the boots for my silver sneakers.

I also added this cream colored bucket bag that I also pulled from the declutter pile. While I wish it was smaller, and I do have a smaller one on my spring/summer wishlist, I’ll keep using this one until I decide to get the smaller one!

It felt silly to get rid of this perfectly good handbag that serves a purpose in my wardrobe (adds a lighter element to my darker clothing items, of which there are many) just because it’s a little bigger than I like!

As much as I love the clothes in my winter capsule wardrobe, I’m really ready to add in some of my warm weather items soon, now that the temps are going up!
