I love that you’re investigating making these instead of buying, Gillian!💕 I voted for the pink pants because they are so MEEEEE, but I think the last pair is more you. The olive green would look fabulous on you!
Thanks, Sheila, it was a fun newsletter to put together. Those pink pants are so dramatic and lovely, and I could definitely see you rocking them! And yes, I want to make something with that green fabric so badly.
I chose the merchant and mills juno trouser in the end but also love the elastic waist pants. The other pants although stunning have such a dramatic leg that I think they could prove too much on the daily, more of a special occasion wear.
I absolutely love the swamp colour fabric (would make great pants) but I could see that skirt in a beautiful choc silk with the sheen. I would worry about the choc linen being too much of a wrinkle type fabric making the skirt look sloppy within an hour of wearing. I can picture your red sweater with both the swamp and choc, devine!
The Juno Trousers are my favorite as well and agree about the first pant pattern...they're definitely the closest pattern to the original inspiration but would likely be unworn except for occasions.
I'm so torn on the skirt fabric - the silk would be amazing but with 2 cats and a slobbery dog, I fear I would be too afraid to wear it for the everyday. One of the biggest roadblocks that I experience with sewing is actually picking a fabric - I get in my head too much about choosing the "perfect" fabric and then I never actually sew anything - I hate it 😭😆
Roadblocks are the worst! With the issues you have explained, I think you should go for the swamp fabric. It won't wrinkle as much being a cotton/linen blend and the colour is gorgeous and would prove quite neutral. I think from what you have said about linen in the past, the choc linen would be a mistake for you. Hope you get past your roadblock and get the sewing project underway.
Thanks for your feedback, Rach! I agree! I plan to order some in June to make the skirt and I think a matching one-shoulder top - just need to find a pattern.
I notoriously don't sew anything ever but for some reason I know that covering snap buttons is a cinch. I think my grandmother had me do them for her when i was a child and she (a crackerjack seamstress) was commissioned a wedding dress.
The polls don’t seem to be working. I would opt for the elastic waist pants pattern. I think they’re more versatile than the very voluminous pair (which is so gorgeous). For the skirt, I think brown linen since you want to add brown to your wardrobe. I love the green too. Maybe add that later?
Thanks for letting me know, Annette! I had some problems with it publishing this morning, but it should be working now. I definitely think I will make it in the brown linen - I've been loving a brown/red color combo lately and would love to add more of both colors over time. And isn't that green so beautiful - I love the idea of making something with it later!

I've used Merchant and Mills patterns in the past and I love their offerings. I can't wait to see what you make!
That’s so good to know! I made their Ellis dress a few years ago when I started sewing. I love the look of the Juno trousers.
Ooohhh, those polls were hard!

This is so good to know, and surprising! After I wrote about it, I convinced myself that it would be very difficult 😅

Brown and red is so good.
